Profile
The Westpark in Munich is very little known by tourists but it is one of the favorite parks of the locals. Created as part of the 1983 International Garden Show, this 60-hectare park was built to a design by Peter Kluska, taking in mind the landscape of the Alpine foothills to create an artificial hill and valley landscape. and two large lakes (West Lake and Moll Lake)
In spring, 20,000 roses from 500 different species bloom. Several other areas in the park are designed in Asian style, including Chinese and Japanese gardens, Nepalese pagodas and Thai sala with Buddha statues.
During the International Garden Show of 1983, a handful of objects were placed in Westpark, which at the time was intended to be permanent works of art in public life. For example, the fountain "Good Day" in the Japanese garden by Japanese-born artist, Mekoto Fujiwara, presents a mixture of materials and natural elements. Christian TobinsKugelbrunnen's "Oblio" is a distance between two objects caused by water pressure between a ball and a bowl, located at the southeast entrance. This means that even children can get the 1.8-ton ball into motion with little effort. Jean Clareboudt's sculpture "Terrace" (Terrace) on the rose hill is a work of art worth the walk to admire.
Right next to the rose garden is the Wirthaus Rosengarten restaurant serving traditional Bavarian specialties. In addition, Café GANS AM WASSER and the beer garden right on the lake are also a great venue that regularly revitalizes Westpark with concerts and various exciting events.
