Located at 117 Phan Bot Chau Street, Thong Nhat Ward, Sac Tu Khai Doan Pagoda is the largest ancient temple of Buon Ma Thuot city and the whole of Dak Lak province. This is not only the first temple of the Buddhist organization in Dak Lak province, but also the last temple of Vietnam to be ordained by the feudal lord.
The pagoda is named after King Khai Dinh and Queen Doan Huy. In addition, the pagoda is also known as Big Pagoda or Tinh Hoi Pagoda. The pagoda was built in 1951 under the direction of Queen Doan Huy - mother of King Bao Dai. In 1953, the main hall was officially started.
The architecture of Sac Tu Khai Doan pagoda is designed in the style of Hue ruong house in harmony with the style of Tay Nguyen stilt house mixed with modern architecture. The pagoda has the main yellow-brown color, creating an ancient and impressive background. From afar, visitors can admire the entire ancient pagoda with its soft, curved tiled roof, in harmony with the surrounding nature, creating an attractive and beautiful scene. Like other temples, Sac Tu Khai Doan Pagoda is in front of the three-door gate, behind is the main hall, behind is the rear of the ancestors.
In particular, the main part of the hall is built with solid ironwood poles. The main hall features a majestic statue of Shakyamuni Buddha and a large bronze bell placed in the right compartment. According to the monks at the temple, this Buddha statue is bronze, 1.1m high, the lotus is made of precious wood, elaborately and meticulously carved. The bronze bell up to 1.15m high was cast by artisans in Hue capital in 1954. In addition, the pagoda also has a shrine to worship Quan Am Bodhisattva built next to it with a hexagonal shape.
Today, Tu Sac Khai Doan Pagoda is known by many tourists to visit and worship Buddha. Therefore, this place has become a famous spiritual tourist destination when traveling to Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak.
