Profile
Antalya was founded two millennia ago because of its extremely convenient harbor. It became a major port on the Mediterranean coast in Asia Minor in Roman times. The Romans strengthened the city's fortifications and improved the harbor's facilities. Through the Byzantine era, then into the Seljuk Turks and Ottoman empires, everyday life in Antalya was centered on the harbor.
Today, the harbor remains in the heart of Antalya, at the water's edge in the historic center of the city called Kaleiçi (Old Antalya). The port is one of the busiest places in Antalya but almost every visitor chooses to take a stroll here when visiting the old town. Some people have exaggerated that the area is "designed for tourists". The reason lies in the fact that this is where the boats take visitors on cruises or to the Duden waterfall.
Still, it's a fun place to hang out and even dine. There are plenty of restaurants and local souvenir shops to choose from in the harbor area, and you can spend hours walking here. It is now surrounded by restaurants and cafes and is a favorite place to gather in the afternoon or evening to sip tea, coffee or drinks or share a meal and chat with friends. .
In addition, the old harbor seems to look like a movie set, on one side are hundreds of ships ready to set sail and behind are restaurants, Roman forts, Hidirlik Kalesi Gate. The Roman past is in the air and under the Mediterranean sun, it's almost impossible not to smile, even when you don't feel like walking at all.
The boats in the harbor are now not cargo ships but private yachts and wide-beam sailboats that take visitors to the Gulf of Antalya on fishing trips or shore excursions. sea. These tour boats are docked with all sorts of vessels ranging from private yachts to small fishing boats.
Walk along the south wall to the lighthouse at the harbor entrance for panoramic views of Antalya's bays, jetties, rocky coastline and fortified defensive walls interesting moment.
