Profile
It's rare to walk into a bar and not recognize a single brand on the bottles of wine on the shelves. Most spirits are distributed by a few multinational companies whose global reach allows guests to order a familiar cocktail, no matter where in the world. But even the most connoisseurs of wine must admit that Becketts Kopf is truly an exceptional bar.
With warm décor like red leather sofas, a photograph of Samuel Beckett in the windows and a gold tiled paneling and a lily painting in the center of the bar; Couple Oliver Ebert and Cristina Neves even added a few Edison bulbs above the bar and dimmed the rest of the lights, creating a Caravaggio-like contrast. Soft jazz and electro tunes also contribute to a relaxing atmosphere at Becketts Kopf.
Nearly all the bottles at Becketts Kopf bear the names of small German and Austrian distilleries because for Ebert the Germans and Austrians are the best distillers in the world. There's a beet liqueur from Austria that Ebert and Neves mix with almond liqueur, red quinquina, red orange juice and distilled wheat, rye, and malt liquor in a cocktail called Red Roots. There is a rowanberry brandy from Bavaria that they stir with tequila and the Maeira of the Bird of Pray cocktail. Becketts coffee cocktails are delicious because they use coffee beans from Barn, one of Berlin's most famous coffee roasters.
The only weakness of Becketts Kopf is that the bar space is a bit small, so on weekends, arriving early is a necessary suggestion to get a satisfactory seating position.
