The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung is the only government-sponsored fine art museum with the aim of shaping the trajectory of art, preserving and researching Taiwan's artistic heritage. Established in 1988, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts now owns an indoor exhibition space and outdoor sculpture parks with a total area of nearly 140,000 square meters, making this art museum the Asia's largest art museum.
The architecture of the main building is a breakthrough in traditional construction design. A transparent corridor is cleverly built to connect the museum and the outdoor natural landscape, and to create a harmonious spatial transition. The museum has created a delicate connection between the arts and the public through the expansion of the urban green strip, the consolidation of public services (including cafes and food courts, and a library), to encourage the public to visit the museum.
The outside area of the museum is a formal art atmosphere with a sculpture park containing about 45 works of art. These sculptures showcase the development of sculpture in Taiwan. Along with the sculptures, the outdoor area also features a forest of stele with 50 calligraphs representing the traditional style, featuring the skillful workmanship of famous Taiwanese scholars carved into the stone, especially the Greenway calligraphy area, which runs throughout the museum's outdoor space.
The museum regularly organizes systematic exhibitions around the topic of art development in Taiwan, international cultural and art exchange, creating connection and communication between visitors and visitors. the arts. Series of biennial exhibitions, including biennial Asian Art (2007), Taiwanese art-once a year (2008), Cross-Strait Contemporary Art Exhibition (2009) ). The biennial International Printing Exhibition, ROC, exhibitions contribute to the expansion of international cooperation and extensive dialogue in the art field of Taiwan and the World. The museum also organizes an exhibition called "Venice Architecture Biennale-Taiwan Pavilion" since 2000, to promote artistic interaction between Taiwan and the world.
Under the Creative & Cultural Industry Development Plan program, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is also in charge of the Digital Art Promotion Project, which aims to support young artists to accumulate and display their talents. their creations and turn Taiwan into an international hub for digital art. Since 2004, international digital art forums and exhibitions and related activities are held here to showcase the latest digital art works from different countries . The museum also established DigiArt (Digital Art Creation and Resource Center) in 2007, with a mission to lay the foundation for the development of digital art in Taiwan. In 2008, Cyclorama Theater started construction, which is a place to display commissioned works.
The museum is open from 09.00 AM to 06.00 PM (closed on Mondays), admission is free. From Taichung city center, you can take bus number 5, 75 and get off at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts station or take bus number 51 and get off at Cultural Center station.
