The Ancient Fishing Village Museum is located in Phu Hai Ward, Phan Thiet City, with an area of nearly 2,000 square meters. This is a place to display artifacts, photos and exhibitions focusing on the art of making fish sauce and many historical figures and events from the Champa period, the Nguyen Dynasty, the French period to the 50s-60s-70s. clearly depicts the ups and downs of Phan Thiet fish sauce.
Before visiting the ancient relics and learning about the 300-year history of the ancient fishing village's fish sauce, visitors will watch a short film, introducing an overview of the journey of Phan Thiet fish sauce at the documentary cinema. .
After that, visitors will come to the space of Khanh Thien fishing village (today's Mui Ne), which is clearly shown through ancient maps collected with nearly 1,000 artifacts, helping to better understand the formation and development of this land.
Next is the ancient Champa space with a unique Kut statue, excavated at a temple tower from the 15th century. It is one of the very sacred symbols of the Cham people. According to the old custom, those who die like kings and mandarins will be incarnated into the Kut statue, then go to the afterlife.
In particular, the museum is currently displaying the original 2 ordination plates of the Nguyen Dynasty king for the coastal village of Binh Thuan. The first ordination card was granted by King Dong Khanh to the people in Dang Ngoai who had reclaimed and established a hamlet in Hoa An fishing village, Phan Thiet. And the remaining ordination plate by King Khai Dinh was given to the god Ong Nam Hai (whale) for helping many fishermen in fishing villages escape at sea.
